January 1, 2000
Lisa and I stayed in bed until 2:20 in the afternoon. We got up, went to Half Price Books, Barnes and Noble, at dinner at Coyote Creek Pizza, and then saw the new James Bond movie at Crossroads cinemas. Then we went home and went to bed.

I learned something today. I learned that art is nothing more than twisted pornography. I had the unfortunate pleasure of visiting the Henry Art Gallery on the UW campus and was amazed at what I saw. I can't even totally explain it. It's something you'd just have to see for yourself.

It snowed this morning in Kirkland. I started playing around with Oracle JDeveloper, a Java compiler. It's pretty nice but I don't know how to do everything that I know how to do with IBM Visual Age for Java. Lisa made taco soup for dinner today. It's actually pretty good. She might make it with chicken next time instead of hamburger.

Lisa went back to Eugene for school today. I ate lots of chocolate today. They have a bunch of chocolate stuff at work and well, you know if it's right in front of you, you gotta eat it. I worked out tonight for the first time in a couple of weeks. Boy howdy, I really need to work out more often. I'm starting Karate again in February. This will make four months that I've taken off. I think I'll be pretty sore when I start up again. No pain, no gain.

Did a little bit of work on the web page today. Had my car in the shop for it's 3000 mile service. They found a problem with the front differential and replaced all the front differential bearings. Don't worry, it's still on warranty. I ate two egg salad sandwiches for dinner today. Okay, well I'll talk to you later.

After work I met a bunch of people I use to work with down at the Rock Bottom. I wound up really offending some chick and I had to leave early. So goes the story of my life.

I was going to go hit the slopes today, but Monster, my friend that I was going to go with, wound up with a sore throat so it didn't happen. Instead, I worked out and did a lot of reading. Pretty quiet day but it was nice and relaxing. I met my friend Craig this evening to smoke a cigar at the Rock Bottom. We met to talk about the future "friend's" web site that we're going to put together. Stay tuned for the future web site. After we met, we went and saw the movie "Man on the Moon" which, by the way, was excellent !! I highly recommend that you get off your seat right now and go see that movie. You won't be sorry.

I'm still surprised as you are that nothing big has happened with Y2K. Well, anyway after work I went to Six Degrees in Greenlake to partake in the Leavenworth beer fest and had an excellent time. I went with a few people I work with and I tell you that the food was top notch and the beer really matched the food. If you didn't read yesterday, I think you really should go see "Man on the Moon" cause it's a really good movie.
January 12, 2000
I didn't write anything yesterday and I'm not going to write much today because I've been working on The Friends web page. You can check out the DRAFT with this link. Craig and I are working jointly to get this thing going. This link is only temporary because all the files will be moved to another server soon. By the way, have you seen "Man on the Moon" yet ? It's a great movie, I'm telling you that you won't be sorry.

Lisa came into town today. It's always nice to see her. We went to Burgermaster for dinner. I never get sick of that place.
January 14, 2000
Tonight I went and picked up the keys to my new place. I'm not really looking forward to moving, but I'm anxious to get out of my little apartment. Any smaller, and the ants would move out.
January 15, 2000
It's go time. That's right ... Today was the first day of moving into my new apartment. John Burkhalter ( a.k.a. Little Johnny B ) came over this morning and helped me move the heavy stuff. He told me the only requirment was to have some recognition on this web page. So here you go Little Johnny B, you're famous now.
January 16, 2000
It rained all day while I was moving. That really torqued me. The day ended with the power out in my new apartment with Lisa and I sitting in from of the fire ( duraflame crackle logs ) eating fresh fruit, bread, and cheese. A little wine was thrown in there too.
January 17, 2000
All moved in and have completely vacated the old apartment. Of course, my living room floor is covered with boxes and some stuff I swear I've never seen before. But the computer and television are in working perfectly and that's all that really matters.
January 18, 2000
Went over to Craig's place after work to get more done on The Friend's Web Page. You should check it out when you get a chance because it's really starting to come together. My living room is still a mess from moving.

Okay, do you remember when I told you that Lisa and I had dinner at the Elephant and Castle .... okay maybe I never told you that, but it was just a few days ago. Well, I decide to go out with a few people at work after work and where do we go .... Elephant and Castle. Hey, you're preaching to the choir - I know it's weird. I haven't been there in an extremely long time and all of a sudden I'm there two times in less than a week. Do you hear the twilight zone music playing ??
January 20, 2000
It was pie day today at J.R. Sprints. mmmmmmmm Thursday at J.R. Sprints there is a special where you buy a sandwich and they give you a slice of apple pie all for $4.90. The pie is so good that I eat it before my sandwich.
January 21, 2000
After work I cleared all the stuff in the living room so I can now walk around without having to jump over boxes. This is the third day that I have walked to the park-n-ride and haven't driven my car at all.
January 22, 2000
Let's see. Got out of bed around noon. Went to work for a few hours. Then, met my sister Kim, her husband John, and a few of their friends for dinner. We went to this nice little Italian place at the Pike Place Market and had a great time. If the service, however, was any slower, we would of have had to snack on some crackers to keep up our strength. I talked with their friends quite a bit and enjoyed the conversations. Side note: fourth day that I haven't driven my car.
January 23, 2000
Finally have everything pretty much organized at the new homestead. I can't find anything. I'm about to break down and just buy some new underwear. Check out The Friend's Web Page again this week. There will be lots of updates on Tuesday evening.

I went to the dentist this morning. Note to self: bring pint of O positive for next visit. I think I need to floss on a more regular basis. Today at work I put together an application that can ftp or http download or upload files from a server. The app downloads xml files, translates them into html files, and then uploads them to another server. Pretty cool, huh ? This thursday there is a big going away luncheon at the Pike Brewery for a guy I once worked with at my last employer. The last time all of us went to lunch there we had to walk around the block a few times before going back to work. The beer sure is good there.

I have made it my mission in life to make a better, more appealing web site than Bird Nelson.com. Why?, you ask. Because I will not be outdone. I will prevail. I will conquer those who seek to rise above me. I will lift myself over the enemy. I will not stand to be pushed down. I am Brett Melton .... hold on, the telephone is ringing .... yes, I am Brett Melton and I will not stand for this petty competition. We'll see in the end who holds the better web site. "Watch out" is what I have to say to Bird Nelson.com you will be squashed.

We had a going away lunch for a former co-worker of mine. He's going to go work for an internet company called QPass. After I got home, I drove up to Craig's place so we could do some more work on the Friends Web Page. It's coming along, but there is still a great deal more to do.
January 28, 2000
I wasn't really feeling that good at work today and was going to go home a little early, but our CEO brought in a lot of wine and Redhook beer, so it's not like I really could leave. I mean ... would you ?
January 29, 2000
I just got MSMoney 2000 Deluxe. It's way cool. Now if I just had some money. I watched the making of the Matrix. I never understood how they made that movie - but the making explains it pretty well. That's some cool technology.
